    REVIEW OF River Valley Resort

    Pennington, KZN South Coast

2 Bearz???????? and a Storm ????, our 97 Sprite Storm, had the opportunity to camp at River Valley Resort. We camped on the weekend of 12 to 14 January 2024.

Although we were the only campers on the Friday we were joined by other campers on the Saturday. They will be staying there for the next 3 months before going further on their long term camping adventure.

We were very thankful for the pool over the weekend what with the 30°C temperatures, 90% humidity and no breeze. One needs to go and eat at Uncle Bob’s Pub and Dinner in the resort situated at reception. They serve a mean hamburger. It is close to the pool but not visible from the pool. Go in your costume and take a dip in the pool between ordering you food and getting it while enjoying a beer in the heat.

We believe there is a five minute walk along a rustic but maintained south coast beach pathway which leads down to the beach and river.

The camp sites are nestled in between trees and well protected from coastal winds. There are 22 sites available. The vast majority of sites have a cement surround filled with small crusher run (Small stones and there are also grassed sites if you are camping with a tent. One might want a second ground sheet if camping on the stones as this can get to your feet after a while. At first we were not so happy about the stones but we could see after a night rain that it was a life saver. KZN is having heavier rains than normal in January this year and our site remained nice a dry while the grass section around got really really soggy. I’d camp in the stones again over the grass.

The resort also has residents that live in the houses that surround the campsite. The campsite is in the middle and the houses encircle the camp ground.

Each site has a standard blue pug connector for electricity. Not sure if reception has an adaptor if you do not have such a plug. Please enquire beforehand. Electricity is charged extra above the camp fees. Over the whole weekend it only cost us R10 which was deducted from our Gate Remote deposit upon leaving. Opening and closing readings are taken and deducted accordingly. Our rate was R3.40/kWh.

Every site shares a water tap with another.

Ablutions are kept neat and clean and even have music playing in them. You can sing along to EC Radio while taking a shower. Plenty of hot water. Toilet paper is supplied but just in case you get extra rolls when you book in at reception.

There is an electric fence around the resort and you are given a remote to open and close the gate.

There is also a swimming pool, a games room and a children’s’ playground.
