BAKGATLA CAMP, PILANSBERG

Overview

North West, Bakgatla Gate, Pilanesberg National Park - This "Big 5" reserve covers some 55 000 hectare and is the fourth largest in Southern Africa. Perched on the eroded edges of an alkaline volcanic crater, it's home to abundant wildlife and birds.

Sites

94 Demarcated caravan/motorhome/campervan sites - most on hard-packed ground so a netted ground sheet is useful • Additional 100 camping sites for tents and trailers - 40 with power and 60 without power.

Site Essentials

  • • Power points available on or near each site. Bring a 20+m extension cord. All caravan/motorhome/campervan sites offer an electrical connection. Tents & Trailer camping sites - 40 of the 100 sites have an electrical connection.

  • • Water points on or near sites.

  • • Portable Braai stands at each site. Bring a grid.
Amenities

  • • Communal Ladies & Gents ablutions. Hot water, showers, baths, basins and flushing toilets.

  • • Scullery for washing dishes.

  • • Hand-washing facilities at the ablutions.
Food, Drinks, Supplies

  • • Licensed restaurant near reception. Light meals and takeaways available at the Pilansberg Centre and at some of the private lodges within the Park. Takeaways at Moruleng Mall 4kms.

  • • Shop with cooldrinks, snacks and curios. For something more, stock up at the supermarkets or Mall at Moruleng 4kms.

  • • Tar to the entrance. Some roads within the park are hard-packed gravel. Tar roads within the park may be badly potholed.

  • • Fenced, access controlled entrance. As a general precaution wherever you travel, keep valuables secured away.
In Town

• Fuel station, liquor outlets and shops abound in the communities that surround the Park. Just outside is the Bakgatla Gate is the Moruleng Mall.
