REVIEW OF Happy Wanderers Holiday Resort

2 Bearz???????? and a Skulpie ????, our 95 Sprint, had the opportunity to camp at Happy Wanderers Holiday Resort from Friday the 25 to Sunday the 27 August 2023. The resort was giving an August 30% discount which was the perfect time to check it out. We were accompanied by 4 others. 2 who are in between caravans and came with their tent and 2 others who had never camped before but had just acquired a Scout.

Once turning off the R102 it is a shot 2 km drive to the resort. Although it is 1km of dirt road it is in way better condition than the tar road. However it was quite manageable for any caravan.

Upon arrival you are met at the gate with smiles. After signing in and getting a gate tag we were allocated a site but where told our group could take any of a host of other sites where there were 3 together. After scouting around the other sites we switched our allocated sites to ones a bit further down but on full grass which was for our in between caravan friends camping in a tent. Although there was no shade on the 3 sites it was pleasant. That being said it is still the end of winter and thus not so warm and the sun is welcomed.

For those that care there is poor to no cellphone signal in the resort. The Shop / Bar area does offer free WiFi for those who wish to walk to the bar and fetch their messages.

The resort is located right on the ocean. No railway line in the way. The majority of sites however do not have a sea view. Between the park and the ocean is a bank of trees which is very nice if the winds do come through the resort. There are 4 pools to choose from and a kids play area with spectacular views of the ocean. The Wreck Heron, the bar & Restaurant, are wonderful and also offer views of the ocean. There is a small shop, Happy Shop, on the resort and it is well stocked from Onions to gas jets to power banks and everything in between. If you leave something behind you will find it in the Happy Shop.

Back to the sites there are choices galore from full grass to sand and well shaded to concrete blocked and shade. The world is your oyster for choice. There are 4 ablutions that service the resort and are well appointed. Some may care but the showers have glass doors not curtains. There was always plenty of hot water when we were there. The 2 ablutions on the furthest ends are operational in high season.

Each site has a brick braai but you need to bring your own braai grid. There is a dustbin for each site and taps are close by. The water is potable from the taps. Electricity is supplied with a Standard 3 pin plug. We see there are TV connection points but no idea if they function or not.

As usual in most KZN resorts monkeys can be a problem so keep your food stuff inside and make sure you close the dustbins with the monkey proof latch. They managed to get our garlic bread which was meant for our braai on Saturday evening.

Overall a very pleasant resort to spend a few days or months.
