Overview

Situated on the banks of the Timbavati River, on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park, approximately 2km east of Orpen Rest Camp.

Sites

20 Level sites, many with shady trees. Sites have no grass - a netted ground sheet is useful. Little general lighting at night, so a torch is essential. Orpen Camp Telephone: 013 735 6355.

Site Essentials
  • • Power points available for most sites. Bring a 25+m extension cord.. Blue caravan plug.

  • • Water points on
    or near sites.

  • • Either fixed or portable Braai stands at each site. Bring a grid.

Amenities
  • • Communal Ladies & Gents ablutions. Hot water, showers and flushing toilets. One bath in the Ladies bathroom

  • • Scullery for washing dishes • Kitchen area with 2 plate stove, microwave and chest freezer.

  • • No laundry facilities.

Food, Drinks, Supplies
  • • No onsite restaurant. Bring everything you need. There is no restaurant or takeaway at nearby Orpen Rest Camp.

  • • No onsite shop. Orpen Rest Camp has a limited shop where you can get the basics.

Activities
  • • Self-drive game drives • Birding

Access
  • • Suitable for all types of typically accepted camping vehicles and ways of camping.

  • • Tar to the entrance of the camp. Internally , both tarred and gravel roads for self-drive game drives. Some may be closed in the rainy season. Generally, all roads are suitable for 2 x 4 vehicles.

  • • Malaria area •
    October to April - Protect yourself by wearing appropriate clothing and applying mosquito repellent. Seek medical advice before your trip about antimalarial medication options and if they are needed.

  • • No cell signal - Weak and patchy cell signal on MTN & Vodacom - calls are usually not a problem, but uploads or streaming can be slow and unstable.

  • • No WiFi

  • • Park & Camp is fenced. Travel and staying within the Park is considered safe. As a general precaution wherever you travel, keep valuables secured away.

    Based on 2 people. Additional charges for any adults and children to a maximum of 6 persons per site.

    Campsite without power - R313 to R424 per night depending on dates
    Campsite with power - R368 to R480 per night depending on dates

    Daily Conservation fees for : South African Citizens and Residents (with ID):
    R128 per adult per day, R61 per child per day.
    Members of SANParks’ loyalty programme WILD do not pay conservation fees provided that proof of Identity and their WILD card are shown on arrival.
    A community fund of 1% will be added to the cost of all accommodation.
