Got some leftovers and need a quick, tasty meal? We always keep a packet of Braai Rolls in the fridge. While they’re perfect as a bread accompaniment for a braai, they truly shine when turned into a delicious breakfast or lunch on their own.
Different suppliers call them by various names – “Roasties” is a brand name from Nizza Foods, while Spar uses the more generic term Braai Rolls. Some are pre-cooked, while others just need a little heating and browning. They come in a myriad of flavours – my favourites for versatility are Garlic, Cheese, and Jalapeño.

What makes these so versatile is not just the variety of flavours but also how they can be cooked. Whether in an air fryer, over a fire, or in a pan on gas, induction, or electric, they’re easy to prepare – just add a drop of butter to grease the pan.

Once heated through, so the filling melts, stuff them with whatever you have to hand. On this occasion, I used steak, mince, ham, and cheese. Roast chicken pairs wonderfully with the Jalapeño flavour, while bacon on the Cheese variety makes for a delicious breakfast.
Let your imagination – and whatever it is you have in the fridge – take you a taste adventure.

HANDY HINTS!
- If you prefer your fillings warm, heat them before filling the braai rolls.
