Ruah Park is conveniently located about 30 min North of Pretoria.
All the stands have private ablution facilities with a bathroom (shower) and wash-up area. There is also a trash can, faucet, and fryer available for each.
The first thing that one notices when entering the park is the beautiful green lawns everywhere. We camped without a ground net as the lawn was lush and well-maintained.
The park is laid out in several terraces. We weren’t lucky enough to have a stand with a tree, but there are a lot of stunning spots with lovely shade. The park is built around a beautiful stream with beautiful plants. There are several ponds where you can fish, and there are a number of species of fish available but be warned – they are very timid! In addition to the fish, some wildlife such as Njalas and Black Whites live in the bush surrounding the campsite. And I must mention the bird life – this is a birdwatcher’s dream with the number of species found there. The are also some well-marked hiking trails.
There is a large socializing area with table tennis and a pool, the prices to use it are very reasonable and the tables are well maintained. There is also a TV so Daddy doesn’t miss the big game. The reception and shop are both also in the socializing area. The store only keeps very basic supplies and is more focused on ice cream, soda, and wood. We were there when they baked pizzas; and indulged in delicious on Saturday afternoon as we sat down at one of the tables and chairs in the socializing/communal area.
Just outside the socializing area, there is a reasonably sized swimming pool. It was very hot when we camped there the first weekend of December, so there were a lot of people coming to swim and the pool was a bit too small to accommodate everyone. There are some benches with umbrellas as well as a canopy available for guests. Ruah Park is not suitable for large, noisy groups. It is aimed at quieter campers who enjoy nature. The resort does not allow any music, which contributes to the incredible tranquility of the park. Some stands are more suitable for tents so feel free to ask management to make recommendations. It’s also important to ask if you have a very large caravan. Unfortunately, all the stands are not all level so with some it will be necessary to measure well and figure out where the most level area is on the stand. The only strange phenomenon we encountered was that the power points (bring your blue plug) were attached to the front of the ablution. This means that you need to route your power line carefully to the back of your caravan so that wires don’t lie all over the place. Ruah is truly a gem to be explored by Pretorians in particular who need a quick weekend in a tranquil setting.
