St Lucia Estuary is situated within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site near the lagoon, beach and ocean, operated by KZN Wildlife.

Sites

92 Level sites on seasonal grass or sand, many offer shade options. Bring a net ground sheet to protect the grass.

  • • Power available sites - Plug points are rated at 5 amps and cannot support appliances with heating elements. Bring a 15+m extension cord.

  • • Water points at sites - • Water is scarce and precious in the area - restrictions do apply at times

  • • Braai facilities available, but many are broken down - bring your own and a grid as a backup.

Amenities
  • • Clean neat ablution blocks - hot water, showers, basins and flushing toilets. Facilities can become overwhelmed in the peak holiday periods.

  • • Scullery for washing dishes.

  • • Laundry facilities available.

Food, Drinks, Supplies
  • • No onsite restaurant. Options available nearby including the St Lucia Ski Boat Club 200m from campsite

  • • No onsite shop. Stock up with groceries in town 1,5kms from the campsite

Activities
  • • Swimming pool • Fishing - permits required • Deep Sea Fishing • Launch ski-boats from the St Lucia Ski-boat Club - rules and regs apply • Boat trips • No swimming in the estuary or mouth due to the hippos and crocodiles and no swimming 100m from the estuary mouth due to strong currents. No windsurfing, sailing or canoeing is permitted on the lake or estuary waters.

Access
  • • Suitable for all types of typically accepted camping vehicles and ways of camping.

  • • Tar roads to the resort. Report to Reception on arrival, before proceeding to camping area. Internal roads are sand.

Other
  • • Pets not allowed

  • • Malaria-free • The area was categorised as Malaria-free in 2017 by the South African Department of Health. However, there are lots of mosquitoes in the summer months so cover up, use repellent and a sleeping net to avoid those itchy bites.

  • • Cell coverage unverified.

  • • No WiFi

  • • The biggest thieves are the monkeys! Food is not safe in tents - keep secure in a locked place. Whilst visitors have not listed security as a concern, as a general precaution keep valuables secured away.
